Default Antenna motor noise ?

So this just started happening on my XK8, turn on the radio, antenna raises and just before it gets tot he top it makes this weird clicking noise? this goes on for about 30 seconds after the antenna is all the way up. I have lubed it up with WD40 now numerous times, turned the antenna back and forth (saw a youtube video) but the sound doesnt go away. Any thoughts? thanks

Perhaps a piece broken off the end of the plastic strip of 'teeth' on the bottom of the mast?

Today's noise can easily become tomorrow's breakage so I'd be taking the motor cover off to check inside.

I ended up replacing mine. There are lots of universal fit antennas on ebay that will work fine but I found an OEM Jaguar used with a warranty for less than $75.

The click is the overrun clutch.Quite normal. perhaps it is not fully extending due to damage on the aerial bit .usually clicks a couple of times at the top and bottom

Thought id post an update on this, purchased an antenna on eBay for $25. Followed the instructions for replacing the mast from a previous post on this site. Total time involved 5 mins. Works like new. Love anytime its a DIY project.

I've been dealing with for the last month or so and I think I also posted about it. Sounds the same as what you were getting--mast goes up fine but then about 15 seconds of noise after it is up (sort of clicking, motor sound) and then it stops. Going down there is no noise. I suspect it is some problem with the last bit of mast and will eventually get around to replacing the mast.

I know the mast replacement is quite easy as I have done this on other cars I have owned. But then again I was thinking nothing is "easy" with the Jaguar so I have been stalling it off. Did you find a preferred replacement from all of the choice on ebay and elsewhere?
