Coolant spec is WSS-M97B44-D. It's usually orange and mixed 50/50. Available at Ford dealers and elsewhere.

A long time since I've heard the term Anti Freeze. It's usually called Coolant as the product is used all year round and does a lot more than protect against frost.

You want Extended Life Coolant (usually coloured orange) to specification WSS-M97B44-D. Although available from Jaguar Dealers, it is also widely available from a lot of auto parts suppliers. It's the specification that's important, not the brand.

If someone has replaced the coolant with something other than OEM, then the coolant you need should be compatible with the coolant that is already in the system. (ie. if it is green, then you should either flush and replace with what you want or just add GREEN coolant)

Do Not Mix different types of coolant!!

If your 2005 has anything other than orange Extended Life coolant in it then the compatability of it and every other fluid in the vehicle is also questionable.

The PO of my car mixed the green with orange and just to make things interesting threw a can of "stop leak" in it. Don't live my nightmare use the spec the guys listed above.

 

 

^^ Dex-Cool 50/50 is what I have used in both of our Jaguars since we purchased them in 2008 and 2012. It meets the required coolant specs, and I have had absolutely no coolant issues in either vehicle....

Does Dex-Cool show the specification on the label?

All coolant sold in Europe must show the specification and I wondered if it is the same in the US.

Yes, the specs are indeed printed on the Dex-Cool jug's label. So are the specs for the other coolant jugs I must keep on my garage shelf to service our other vehicles. The two Jaguars, my Dodge Ram pickup, and our Subaru Outback all require different coolant formulas, so I always keep three different types of coolants handy....

 

Jon you buy the 50/50 stuff? The full strength is only slightly more expensive and a gallon of distilled water is only a couple of bucks.
Maybe it's my Scottishness?

 

I agree that it is EXPENSIVE WATER when the pre-mix is purchased.

Your own preferred coolant is supplied slightly less than 50/50 .......



..... and 50% of that bottle makes for very expensive water.

I am at a point in my life (old ) where I don't mind paying for convenience.

It's worth a few bucks to simplify the task.

 

I don't think there is an alternative for that!

50/50 is ~$13/Gal 100% is ~$15/Gal Distilled water is ~$2/Gal so two gallons of 50/50 for ~$17 a $9 saving, worth 5 minutes of my time.

• Pour (2 min)
• Close bottle (1 min)
• Shelve or discard bottle (1 min)

• Purchase water and coolant at same time (0 additional mins)
• finding a suitable container to mix it in (5 min)
• Use empty coolant container for mixing (0 additional mins)
• mixing (5 min)
• dealing with the left over mix (5 min)
• Nothing left over, 1gal new coolant + 1 gal water in old and new coolant containers.
• cleanup & storage (10 min)
• Assuming I didn't make a mess and storage is the same for purchased and self mixed coolant (0 additional mins)
• You will have to make another trip to the store while I am still using my second gal
  (30 additional mins)

That gives me time to enjoy a Highland Park once Graham finally sends me some.

 

I agree with rothwell. In this particular case, the Dex-Cool 50/50 mix is much easier for me to store and use as needed. And because I purchase a gallon jug of it only every three years or so, I am not going to quibble about the cost differential. Yes indeed, I keep a tight wallet. But this particular example is simply too insignificant to be OCD about....

 

Now I am envious you have an auto parts store that sells distilled water.

And what empty coolant container? You even keep those around?

I will have to try the Highland Park now for sure. My local source only carries a $700 bottle of the 25 year old.

I see they have a 30 year old for $1300

I will have to start with the $60 15 year old since it will last maybe 3-4 days in the company I keep.

I hope it doesn't take like antifreeze.
