Default Load testing my zero dollar repair

Had friend test out my home DIY repair. He’s a bit more weighty than me.

All’s well at the moment. Glue on the reinforcement webbing, with epoxy on the sides at the hangers support, seem to be holding. Can’t see staples so don’t know if they are holding. Let’s see if my home DIY fix holds during the hot Arabian Gulf summer.

Anyone know where to find the Wire Basket replacement for the seat..? I've exhausted the inter-web looking for it...?????

I just reupholstered the drivers seat and the same issue with mine...rubber diaphragm was split and torn...can't repair it as is. I would prefer the newer wire baskets. Passenger side is good and I could swap...but...rather just replace both and not have to think about it later.

Default Wire basket will need significant modifications

I looked at Rothwell’s wire basket but trying to replace rubber diaphragm with the new springs is way too difficult. Different orientation. Easier to just get a complete new seat. But these are NLA, so you have to go to scrap yard, and that is always a lottery.

I found one in the UK. Not cheap though.

At least you can see what it looks like. Good chance it is a common Ford part since the rack is Ford. Perhaps you can find a match.

I think it may be cheaper to just find an upholstery shop and/or try to find a wire basket from another seat and modify it..??? I'll keep looking....

I agree that it may be best to talk with a well-respected, long-time-in-business upholstery shop and see what they suggest. If they come up empty, I would then find a well-respected local metal shop and see what they could fabricate for you. This would be relatively easy for an experienced metal shop to create. You just need to find one willing to help you for a reasonable price....

Default Update to my seat diaphgram fix

Gents,

I thought it was worth updating my old "****" thread. I previously detailed a fix repairing the driver's seat diaphgram's rubber tear using epoxy, tape, and gluing/stapling in additional webbing from a broken office chair. I had put the repaired diaphragm in the passenger side, as it sees less use, so the drivers side was OEM (from the passenger seat).

I kept a look out for something on eBay. An e-seller had no takers for his XK8 seat, so I made him a offer on just the support diaphragm. It took a while for his post to get here but I wasn't in a rush as my fix seemed to have worked for a while but.....

With lovely weather here in the Arabian Gulf, it's good for top down driving.... and I'm getting a lot of passengers who ride with me. The X100 is a very pretty car after all. However recently one passenger said her left **** cheek was lower than the right! (.....Yes, she was a blonde!)

Well as can sometimes be expected from zero dollar fixes, my temporary fix was …. well.... temporary. See pic below. The repair to the rubber had torn and the stapled & glued webbing was just about holding on.....



As I had the replacement unit in hand, the passenger seat was repaired, (as per my usual routine, I also hoovered the dirty carpets under the chair, & cleaned all electrical connectors while I was in the area) and the seat was back in the car after just 40 min. Seems almost routine now.
