Default ASC/Traction Control Message

Periodically I get the Anti-Lock brake symbol lit up with the message "ASC/Traction Contol Not Available" (or something like that). I get it when I start the car and can turn it off by restarting it after I have driven a mile or two. Sometimes (rarely) it will pop on when I have been driving and sometimes not come up at all. In fact the whole issue went away for a few months before it came back again...

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance...great forum.

May be dirty sensors at the wheels causing the intermittent trip of the CEL. Turning the car off and restarting it just resets the computer.

That's typical of low battery voltage, and I'd suggesthaving yours load-tested.

I had the battery "Load Tested". It showed plenty of cranking amps and 14.05 volts. I was told that as long as its above 14 volts that the battery isOK. Given the sensitivity of these machines is that true?

In the meantimne the error message is not re-setting as readily as before. It is on 75% of the time.

Thanks in advance!

without codes to see what the abs ecu sees as a fault is like fishing without a pole, its guessing at best. but heres a guess, if its c1095 pump motor, this is a ecu malfunction and you need an expensive ecu, the good news is that your abs works fine with the light off, and it doesnt have to be replaced until the light stays on, or you get tired of it coming on

I'd suggest cleaning the wheel speed sensors first, as Lew suggested...thats a freebie. If you're running the stock brake pads, those things are incredibly dusty, accumulating everywhere..hence my message center appeared several times when I first got the car. i've sinced pulled the wheels, cleaned everything in the wheelwells, replaced brake pads, and the message has never come back.

If you've got a message after cleaning, get the codes read as brutal recommends...that'll tell you at least which wheel is giving you grief, if its a sensor or other larger problem.. and you can start nailing it down from there.

Had the sensors cleaned by my local garage...it seems better but still not quite right. Is there any magic to cleaning them correctly that I could pass on to him?

Thanks in advance!
