Default Battery Dead while on Trickle Charger

My 98 Xk8 coupe had been put away for the winter and hooked uo to a CTEK 4.3 trickle charger, my battery is a less than one year old Oddessy. I have not started the car in a month and a half. i do check the trickle charger read out (series of lights) and it appears to be charging.
Today, a cold but dry day in NE PA, I decided to take the car out for a drive. The car is a dead as a door nail, couldn't even get the remote to open the trunk.
What happened?, Can I re-charge the battery and is their a special method for Jags? Anything special when restarting the car? Thanks.

I am not sure why the C-Tek isn't workiing but you can recharge the battery. First you must disconnect it. Never charge or jump the vehicle with the battery connected. I would pull the battery and have it charged and load tested. Possibly your connections are corroded and the C-Tek is getting false info or the C-Tek isn't working properly.
I would recommend that once you are fully charged you push the accelerator pedal all of the way to the floor and crank the engine for a short duration a couple of times. Pedal on the floor will shut off fuel to the injectors and cranking will splash oil on the cylinder liners. After that, start as you normally would.

Remember that the car goes into a deep sleep state after a while (week, maybe more) to save on the battery even more. In that state, the remote no longer works, and you have to use the key to wake the car up...

Total battery death whilst on a CTEK is unusual. Clearly the battery needs checking. In addition, the connections to the HPPM (High Power Protection Module) are a known issue.

This is my 2005 XK8 but earlier models are similar.

I don't know what's causing the problem, i haven't encountered any problems with this car in the almost 4 yrs I've owned it.
I now have the battery which is new (less the 3-4k miles and a year old...Odessy among the best). The CTEK has been working fine through most of the winter and the fall. The car is garaged and covered. i started last around Xmas and it is was fine. The connection appears good and the read out the CTEK is fully charged.
I took the battery out last night and charged it...it is now at 100%. I 'm ready to reinstall and start the car....any last tips before I go forward? It's 10am in PA, I'll start it up around noon.

If I recall correctly, you should turn the ignition on for 30 sec. before starting the car to allow the ECU to do a throttle adaptation. Do not touch the pedal.
