BBS brand detroit wheels for a 2004 XKR or replacements?
I've got a 2004 XKR silverstone edition with the detroit bbs wheels: 20/10s in the back and 20/9s in the front. Lent it to my friend for his job interview, he shredded both wheels on the right side against a Dunkin Donuts curb so both right side wheels are shot. Any suggestions where to find affordable 1) replacement BBS detroit wheels or 2) where to get them repaired or 3) perhaps suggestions for other wheel options that are shapely enough to fit over those thick bembo brakes? it seems replacing the outer rings won't be enough because the actual wheels are also shredded in key areas. Affordable is key as I'm stuck paying for the damage at this point. see pics of the two damaged rims. I'm located in Cambridge, MA. USA.
I don't know enough to tell you if they are repairable, but it might be better to replace them. The BBS wheels are hard to come by, but if you must, I know the BBS detroit Sepangs, and the BBS Montreals clear the Brembos. However, when looking at the Sepangs, there are two versions, the ones on the X100 and the ones on the X350 have a different bolt pattern.
From the other stock, non BBS Jag wheels, I know the Hydra's (which I have on my XKR) clear the Brembos (these are less expensive and more plentiful than the other options). I think as long as they are 18 inches or bigger they would clear the Brembos. I would go with 19's to be on the safe side. The exception to this rule are the Apollo wheels, which do not clear the Brembo brakes.
Aftermarket, about the only ones I know of are the Coventry wheels, which you can get in various sizes. Taste is subjective.
Looks like only the trim rings are damaged, they can be replaced, the wheels come apart and you put the new trim rings in. SB Wheels in the UK sells them, I seem to recall there was someone in the US who had them as well. I don't remember who though...
As above, he only killed your trim rings. I don't see anything that would make me think the wheel itself is damaged. It's not a cheap fix, but it's fixable.
You don't have a 2004 Silverstone as they were only made in 2001....Also, your Wheels are repairable and only needs to be taken to a Wheel Repair Shop......You need to check the internet for one near by! You've indicated hat your location is: 02139 and I'm not sure where in Texas that is! If you look in the Yellow Pages, you can probably find something close....A last piece of advice: Don't Loan your Jaguar to your friends...…Incidentally Kiril, your Wheels are 3 pieces and are bolted together....The Fronts are 20"X 9" and the Rears are 20"X10"....That is called "Staggered"!!!

If you want to try and disassemble them, I can give you a hand; I've replaced the trim ring on my own XKR's BBS Milan wheel and have the right star bit. Do you go to Samuels Jaguar Motors down in Brighton? They might know a source for these. Unfortunately I doubt that anything to do with a 20" BBS wheel will be cheap.

Wow, funny enough, I've seen your car before. I work in Cambridge and was driving back home and noticed the car. Stopped and looked at it for a while.
I've also been looking for wheel repair shops. I just got Montreals, 3 are brand new, one is used and needs a new trim ring. I'll probably end up going with the SB option that cambo mentioned (I've yet to see anything cheaper).
It looks like the place I got them from (Jon Kemp in the UK) has them for a bit less: BBS alloy wheel | car wheel chrome trims rim protector wheel trims Leics Notts Derbyshire Sheffield Hull Lincoln Southampton . Hope you have better luck than I did with finding a shop; the place I talked to (I think Rimpro up in Billerica) said they don't touch multi-piece BBS wheels because of all the problems they've had with titanium bolts breaking off when they were trying to disassemble them, and they said that's more the rule than the exception. My wheels were thankfully easy to deal with seeing as they were shipped from Texas, so very little corrosion.
Here's the deal...the trim rings can be replaced without disassembling the wheels, you will need a heat gun to heat the SS trim ring and get the glue to release it, using a tool to lever the ring off. If the wheel is not disassembled, you will need to heat sink the painted area to keep it from bubbling.
The new ones are then glued on with silicone adhesive. If the tires are holding air, the actual wheel drums are probably okay, so leave them alone. New drums are not available, so be careful messing with them. Taking the wheel bolts out requires a triple square (12 point) 8mm bit. I have taken a couple wheels apart successfully but many report broken bolts. This could be tricky to fix since these bolts are really hard titanium.
The last time I needed one about three years ago, new wheels were available but they were painted oyster, not silver, so had to be repainted. A new wheel was $2500 at that time. Add a couple hundred to repaint it.
I also found rebuilt wheels on the internet, but you have to look hard. Three years ago, I paid $900 for a nicely rebuilt rear wheel.

A little clarification of what is meant by "disassembling" might be needed.
The trim rings are retained in place by the wheel centre and a lip on inner edge of trim and unless some modification is being carried out on trim rings these can not be fitted without removing wheel centre.
As for replacement wheels, you can still be lucky. I found brand new never fitted rears for $500. for both.
thanks for the offer, I'm not sure what to do at this point, have had no luck finding full on wheels ready to go. Rim Shine in Allston has offered to do it affordably as long as I provide the directions but they have never done it before. I was going to order the rings from England finally. And Rimshine says they can fix the gouges in the wheel itself with adding some metal. Both wheels need gouge fixing.
unfortunately the rim shine folks in Allston noticed the gouging in both wheels beyond just the shredded wheel rings but they say they can fix the steel gouges.
excellent, thanks for all the wheel style tips. So any wheel on a regular XK8 will not clear the Brembros right? I see a lot of xk8 wheels for sale for short money so it is tempting.
