BCM replacement
Hi everyone,
First thread opening for me, feel free to tell me if I'm doing it wrong !
We have a 2001 XKR in our workshop with an airbag light on. After a few diagnostics, it seems like the issue is in the BCM. Starting from the airbag, we trace the signal to the BCM, but we haven't got any signal out. We tried with another BCM from another XK, and apart from normal compatibility issues, we don't have the airbag light anymore and a signal out the new BCM.
We tried to put the BCM at an electronic workshop we work with, but they said they haven't got the right tools for that (simulator?). I tried a few electronic companies in UK (like Bluehawk Electronics I found on the forum) but I got no answers from that.
As I recall (but I may be wrong) you can't put a used BCM on another car because it is "programmed" with a specific VIN. Is there a way to "erase" this programming and reprogram it with the new VIN ?
Thank you very much for your help

Thank you for your answer, I just checked the 3 digits in the trunk, and realized the BPM in the car doesn't even match the reference (LJB2500AF instead of LJE2500AC).
But how can I find the right BPM which matches the last 3 digits (125) as those digits doesn't appear on the module reference ?

Ok, I'll just buy a dozen XKR convertible from 2001 to find those matching digits then
Joking aside, if I find one used BPM with the right ref on the web I have no choice but to ask the seller the VCATS label of the donor car ...

Whenever I pull a part from a salvage car I have, I write the number on the module from the VCATS in the boot.
When I worked at the dealer, the parts dept would not even TALK to you unless you gave them the VCATS suffix number for the part to order from Jaguar.
The JEPC will state that the part needs a suffix number that can be obtained by interrogating the module with WDS/IDS. (or look in the boot at the VCATS label)

My 2001 RHD XKR convertible has LJE2500AC/147 on the VCATS for the BPM. If you don't know the last three digits of the donor vehicles BPM the best you can do is try and find a matching year/model (i.e. convertible rather than coupe).
I would try Autoreserve in the UK - they usually have a good supply of well documented spares. You will have to pay import duty and customs fees thanks to Brexit, but if you can't find a source in the EU it's your best bet.
