Default Best Oil filters

I recently linked from this forum into a page where someone had evaluated oil filters....a significant evaluation where he had cut and measured the filter elements....etc.

I can't seem to find the link.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If so, can you please point me at it?

tnx

I'm usually a bit non-chalant about this sort of thing but I've heard great things about the Baldwin filters. Apparently they have a great reputation.

I never heard of 'em until I started dabbling in Ferrari servicing....which, judging from your signature, is how you learned about them as well

Cheers

Quite true.....the Ferrari community obsesses about everything....and in filters they insist on Baldwin or UFI...so I'll just take their word for it....

Cheers

I believe a genuine jaguar filter has a non return valve which stops oil draining back into the engine and thereby helps protect the motor on start up. Not all after market filters had the non return valve. You pays your money.....

Just checked to see if I could get a Bosch oil filter in the U.K for my 1999 XK8 which appears to be a bosch 72209 premium ( ? ) according to the U.S specs, just out of curiosity. Looks like its easier to get hold of hens teeth

That would be a straight copy and paste from the Bosch publicity blurb right?

In the real world, the Bosch listing for the 4.0L engine differs in dimensions from the Jaguar original part. It is shorter so that it will fit both the side mount filter pad and front mount filter pad applications. This bit of catalogue number engineering lets them use one part to cover two interchanges. They are also much lighter new than the equivalent Mann filter.

No thanks. Bought two, used two. Not buying any more.

Thanks for that Plums, and noted, I have a genuine Jaguar filter which hopefully will be fitted late next week when I get the tensioners done ( weh hey ) together with fuel filter and drive belt. It will give me a chance to test the gearbox also. BTW are you on the edge U.K or US? LOL's
Cheers,
