I am considering adding an engine additive to clean out my injectors and fuel system. My car is a 2000 XKR and has 82000 miles on the clock. I routinely do this on my daily driver a VW diesel golf every 10,000 miles.
I came across this product on another post on the site and was wondering would there be any implications for my engine, as having checked the Vin number I know my car to have Nikasil piston linings.
I know high sulphur content in some pre 2000 fuels and it's reaction with the Nikasil linings was the cause of some engine failures and wonder how sensitive these linings are to other chemical additives.

I am also looking for an additive for myself. I am a high mieage [60], normally aspirated[don't smoke], one owner, un modified[I don't wear a tupee] English Jag nut. Looking to improve general performance.Any ideas?

Don't risk, use better premium you can find, change oil every 5k, use viagra.

 

Cialis is waaayyyy superior to Viagra. I buy them online for $1 each. PM me if you war to know where.

The BG-44K won't hurt the nikasil linings. My concern would be that if there is some dirty buildup around the cylinder walls the BG will clean them up, and you may loose some compression. Best way to clean the injectors in that engine is to remove them and have them cleaned on a fuel injector machine.

 

So you're not to the stage for FlowMax/Viagra combo so your injector doesn't dribble on your foot...

 

 

I really don't believe in additives of any type but my mechanic talked me into trying the BG=44K in my 1999 with 113,000 miles. I have noticed improved power and smoother idle. It might just be placebo effect but I would do it again.

 

A better combo may be Jalyn/Viagra "so your injector doesn't dribble on your foot..."

 

I'll admit that I know nothing about BG products, but I've been hearing them advertised on the radio a lot lately. I had never even heard of them before a month or so ago. Apparently you can only get their products from your mechanic, so DIYers are out of luck.

It kinda sounds like clever marketing to me; a company comes out of nowhere selling a product that is soooooo good that you can only buy it from a few select mechanics. Then for $150 the mechanic pours a bottle of relabeled STP fuel injector cleaner into your gas tank and Marvel Mystery Oil into your crankcase.

 

I tried it and noticed a difference, For me it was more like a "one and done" kind of deal. I call it "cat nip"

I read on a coulple other threads of many XJ/XK owners trying it and liking it.
To each there own!

In Canada you can buy it at NAPA, but only in the kit for a hundred bucks.
I had tracked down an auto shop who sold just the additve.

 

Thank you all for the feed back. Interesting that BG-44k is so expensive across the pond. It is available here in the UK for about £20[38$ more or less]. The point most of the comments make is that by using the best high octane fuel available any deposits in the fuel system will be minimal. I use Shell V power unleaded, which is the highest octane you can get in the UK, so theoretically my fuel system should be pretty clean.
As for the other "technical advice" regarding my personal performance thank you as well. Viagra seems to be the way to go it seems. Can I get this from my local parts shop, is there a Jaguar parts number I should use?

Jaguar does recognize that the injectors can be cleaned with various products like BG-44K.

I have done a few injector cleaning services at the dealer and sometimes this helped.

BG has been around for a long time and has been used by professionals and is just getting into the retail market. People have noticed that when they have taken their cars to the dealer for fuel injection service that they just added a can of BG-44k to the fuel. My XKR had a minor rough idle even after replacing the plugs. A can of BG-44K on a trip to FL cleared it up. One can a year and haven't had any fuel problems at all. I am a believer. More and more places are selling it now. Ebay is a good source.

 

BG 44K will not harm your Nikasil! Jaguar dealers around the country use it and I use it in all my cars.

 

I purchase BG-44 from Handa-accessories.com (Carmichael Honda-Citrus Valley,CA). I buy all my Honda Pilot maint. stuff from these guys. I had never heard of BG-44 until I saw Gus post about it. I use it in all my vehicles including the Jag. By the way you can purchase from these guys for $19.95/can plus shipping.

 

I bought a case of it on ebay for about $7 a can.

 

Keep in mind not to over use the BG 44k. I use it about 2 times a year.

 

I use it once a year with good results.
