As long as the wheels aren't too big, it can look good. It's not really my style, but I have seen it done well. I think black wheels look best with a chrome ring around the lip of the wheel itself. Have any pictures of the wheels and your car so we can make an educated assessment?

I agree on the chrome rings. Then it becomes unique. But modern, larger diameter rims that can wear them can be hard to find.

Hey, what about chrome spinner hub caps with wide white wall tires on an XK? Would that look sharp or what?!

I think it would look pretty sharp. Provide pics if you take the leap.

I'm a stock kinda guy, it would have to be done really tastefully, and conservatively to get my thumbs up. But, the style is your own.

I had my Apollo's Black Chromed about 3yrs ago. I was a little suprised at how dark they can sometimes look. It all depends on the angle and lighting conditions. I am actually hoping to find a wheel repair/rework facility that can apply the Hyper Black look. It is not quite so dark. Anyway here's a shot of one of my rims.

^^^^That looks great. And I agree with Matt on the stock wheels, they look right and fit right. That said I have a custome rwith a black 09 XF with black chromes Dale Ernhardt wheels. And of course I cannot find them on the website. But they look like something the factory would putout and dont look gaudy or aftermarket

Coupeman, those look great. I'd do my double 5's in straight or black crome if I could afford it. Would you mind sharing the cost?

RJAG, they were less than $1000. I was just looking for my reciept but can't locate it right now. California Chrome did mine and they still do Black Chrome. Their current prices are $175ea for 18" and $185ea for 19". Each rim diameter it goes up about $10.

But again, these can look pretty dark in certain light and angles so be prepared. It's pretty different when you first put them on. I actually would like something a bit lighter, but I get compliments on them constantly!

coupeman, for something 'different' that is definitely the way to go! In essence, you don't depreciate the car by putting aftermarket rims on it, but give it a 'spin' as such. Myblackcat over here in Dallas had the jag dealer do black chrome on his 2005 stypeR vulcans...

h20boy(Matt), yeah, I am on/off with mine. I do get lots of compliments, but they are just sometimes too dark. Cal-Chrome said they can actually refinish the rims in something different than B-chrome but they can't do the Hyper Black I so really like. I had the 20's on my X5 powdercoated grey metallic and REALLY dislike them, so thats a no-go. I am really overly picky about rims and have been known to go through 3 sets before finding the right look. With the XK8/R's I definitely am hooked on the Apollo's. They absolutely look designed with the car in mind. Soft ovals and curves that match the overall design of the car. Like the Asteroids on the 2001-2003 XJR's are the perfect match for those sedans in my opinion. Anyway, I believe I am ranting.....so I will close this hahaa. Take care.
