Wink Bluetooth

I have purchased a 2006 XK8 Convertible Victory Edition that came standard with many extras above the normal model. One item is bluetooth.
I cannot seem to connect with my smartphone/Blackberry 9700 bold to the system. The smart phone does not recognize any bluetooth transmission from the car.
I was told to press the old fashioned phone on the center dash then type in a code ... It seems that the bluetooth will not allow me to type in the code !!! Does anyone know what code to type in to reset the bluetooth on the car ? Any suggestions will be appreciated
Normie

You need to make the car discoverable in order to pair the phone. See the attached phone manual.

Good luck!

Interesting. I have a relatively new LG phone. Nothing fancy, but new. The Bluetooth pairs fine. Works great. You can listen to the radio or a CD and the phone rings. The radio goes mute. You touch a button to receive the call. The quality of the incoming and your outgoing voice is excellent. When the call is over the radio comes back on.

I have not been able to get my contact directory loaded into the car. The manual says you can do it, but it doesn't work for me.

On a related note - Bluetooth did not work in the car when I bought it. The salesman could not get it to work, nor could I. The service dept. determined it needed a part they sourced from England to make it work. I bet it was an expensive part. I was not charged anything. Bought it from a dealership (Hennessy Jaguar) with Select Edition warranty.

The software in mid 2000 jags were a bit of a problem to pair up. The Jaguar Bluetooth connectivity centre says that the 9700 is compatible and I have pdf'd the detail attached.

My S Type would fail to attach and it took me 3/4 attempts to get it to pairing mode. Also remember there is a 6 minute wait between attampts.

A small request...punctuation, without it these posts hurt my eyes.

Any vehicle software update that is available (except the Nav) will have to be uploaded by the dealer's IDS/ WDS computer.

Norm,
In your case, the only way upgrade and possibly, I say possibly, get any compatibility with newer phones is to get a newer Bluetooth Upgrade Module. That's the small module in your console that communicates with your phone through "Bluetooth". All X-Types, S-Types, XK8's and XJ's [with the exception of the 2008 XJ] utilize the BTUM or Bluetooth Upgrade Module. It is not software upgradeable as it used a Motorola proprietary communication line to the PSE. In 2008 the XJ BTUM was combined with the PSE as are all the later cars. About the only way to tell if a new one is later than yours is to remove it and see the letter suffix on the label. [AA, AB, AC etc.] Sometime in 2005 suffix AA went to AB, and I have no idea what one would be if you bought a new one today. Not knowing when your XK8 Victory was built, it's hard telling what's in it, I'd guess it's an AA. As a last resort, you might try to find a wrecked X or S-Type from 2008 and take the BTUM. That one would surely be later than yours.
You gotta remember, for a lot of years, Motorola just wouldn't turn loose of the "proprietary" stuff. That made it difficult for us......everybody actually, we're not the only car company that had to use their stuff.

Good luck!
