Default bonehead move - cooling system froze solid

So I was doing some work on the system in the fall looking for leaks, I think I got them all. Just had water in the system while I was fixing the issues. I put it up on stands for the winter a few weeks ago and forgot to drain the water out. Man, now I will need to look for new leaks from the expansion......

More than one way to warp a head.

I am restoring a car that spent 19 winters in a hay barn. Heater core split but at least the head/block and radiator survived.

Back in the early '70s my brother drove my 1966 'E' Type Jaguar and blew a radiator hose. He replaced the hose and then filled with water (he failed to mention this to me). He drove the car again and wrecked it a few weeks later. The car sat in the back yard for the winter.

In the spring I got it started and water POURED down both sides of the block.
There were GIANT SPLITS along both sides of the engine block from the expanding ICE.

A good-used replacement engine was sourced and installed. The body was repaired.

I bought a 1985 Jaguar XJ6 with a CHEVY small block (cheap) that was leaking water in the same way my 'E' Type did. The engine had both sides of the block split when someone left water in the system instead of coolant/antifreeze. Luckily Small Block 350 CHEVY engines are pretty cheap.

I hope you have better luck with the frozen engine than I did.
