You absolutely must get it replaced.

Earth leads are the grounding paths from your electronics back to the battery. When they are broken, loose or corroded, bad things start to happen.

bobg, often grounds like this also prevent RFI (radio freq. interference) from electronics in the engine compartment. John

I am a bit confused by this post as I cannot find this part on my car. Is it for a specific year or for all 8's. Any pics would be much appreciated.
I thought the bonnet would be earthed through the hinged mechanism directly to the frame. Any comments welcomed.

Cheers, Arty

Default Ground Lead Bonnet

Ground Lead Bonnet Part# LMB3741AA Over $54.00
Try an auto parts store to find a knock off replacement for $5.00. Make sure it's a flexible thick gauge braided wire with connectors if possible. Bonnet struts must be taken off to get at left frame 13mm nut holding on the ground lead, same for the bolt connection to the bonnet, it's an easy install with the bonnet struts disconnected and the bonnet leaning forward and braced with a 36 inch board so not to fall back on you while your working, clean all connection surfaces and bolts with wire brush before reconnecting new ground lead.

Skip the board and insert bolts in the bonnet service position holes. It's much safer and doesn't put a strain on the bonnet.

What do you mean by skip the "board", is that the metal plate with the bolt?

There are no electrical items on the bonnet so this can only be something to do with RFI and to be fair, probably does little if any good and chances are you could leave it as is.

With the bonnet struts disconnected and the bonnet raised vertically will find that the 2 holes on each hinge line up and a bolt slid in the holes is called "bonnet service position"
