Default Brake light warning

Brake lights seem to be working but when I apply the brake, the light warning appears?

DaveT,

Welcome to the Forum. We'll need a bit of additional info to help.

First a few questions reg. the brake warning light you mention. Does it come with any message on the dashboard? Is the red light on immediately above the message panel. It could be as simple as Handbrake On, or it could be serious as Low Brake Fluid. Check the electrical connector on the ABS module and clean with Contact Cleaner (not WD40). Note that this will cause an initial ABS fault but will clear with driving. (Eventually you'll need to clear the DTC recorded).

BTW When was the last time you changed the Brake Fluid?

BTW 2. I don't remember seeing a brake pad sensor when I did my brake renewal, but that was a while ago. Hopefully other forum members will chime in if this could be a cause.

+1 with David. Did you ever do the fix to the rear lights assembly that installs a properly sized (thicker guage) ground wire.(credit to "Brutal" search on his name for detailed instructions).

In case you missed it- Jaguar chose to use a ground wire that is too thin to handle the combined current demands of several bulbs simultaneously. I suspect this.

Several of us, myself included, have posted instructions to accomplish this fix.

***Second thoughts (its late). This is more likely a bad brake switch than a bad ground

John
