Default Bushing and Shock mount Failure

Maybe this will work on the pictures.

Anyone know why the shock mount wore this way? Just on one side?

Suggestions appreciated.

Chuck

The other pic is the lower shock bushing. Looked perfectly normal while installed. It's a shame the only time you can see something like this, is after it's removed from the car.....

The mount was bad to start and the shock must have been bad also, but some one replaced the mount only. In this case the shock should have been replaced. Not always the case. Get the poly ones next time. Had good results and no noticeable ride difference.

That's what I replaced them with. Thanks.

I was wondering if how the spring was oriented made a difference. My springs had a painted line on them facing toward the tire and I wondered at the time if the spring should be placed like that again.

l am pretty sure the painted line or lines on springs are identification of spring rate and other properties only.

Thanks Baxtor,
Good explanation and one I'll go with.

Chuck looks like you have this answered but in case someone looks into this in the future:

I believe the spring is oriented by mounting it so the end of the spring coil butts up against the raised stop (tab) pressed into the plate that supports the spring.

Johnken,

Thanks, I intend to double check my installation to insure I did it this way. Makes sense.

Chuck, if the orientation is not right, don't take it all apart until you try this.
Remove wheel , let the arms drop and spray the top and bottom area of the spring with your best lub. (WD40)
Wait a bit and grab each side and twist, should lock it into the stop. Might have to remove the bottom shock bolt, but I doubt it.

Johnken and 777,

I just checked the upper shock mount I removed from the car and the portion that the spring rides on (the bottom portion of the mount) is just smooth. There is no tab of sorts that the end of the spring butts up against. Possibly on the original set up.
Am I missing something??

Somewhat confused (most of the time anyway) :-)

Sorry, I had meant to post the other day that there is not "stop" on the front shocks.

Race---
Thanks, that's good. Was beginning to think I had installed mine with something missing.

Thanks

I think he meant at the bottom. There is a metal plate mid-height on the shock, and a plastic insert on it. That insert has a "ramp" and a "stop" for the bottom of the spring.
