Default Cabin/pollen filter 2001 XKR ?

Just replaced the cabin/pollen filter in my 2008 Kia 4WD - utterly filthy and full of dead insects - I'm guessing it has never been changed from new - added a can of aircon purifier so all sweet and lovely now.

Anyway, it naturally got me thinking about the XKR. It had an aircon service (whatever that is) by the main dealer about 10K ago - I'm sure I remember them saying they replaced the pollen filter but it's not on any of my service bills and if they fitted one those cowboys wouldn't have done it for free.

I note that many US/LHD models did not have a cabin filter fitted as standard but was a customer request.

So question - is there any way of checking if my car has one fitted without taking the thing to pieces? I seem to remember to access the cabin filter box one needs to remove the scuttle plate and wipers - I don't much fancy doing that on a "fishing trip"

I doubt that ANY convertible XK8/XKR would have been fitted with a cabin air filter assembly at the factory. Not much point of putting one in a ragtop....

That's all well and good if your climate allows you to have the top down 9/10 year - where I am it's a rare treat so the A/C is running with the top up 9/10 year...

If you have one it'll be under the plenum panel where the wipers attach.

Hello, I have a 2001 XKR convertible and the Penske Jaguar dealer of Scottsdale , Arizona swears the automobile did not come with a cabin filter and says no place for it.

That said, I have changed my cabin filter 4 times in the last 8 years.

They are about 25 or so dollars each.

Main reason for using cabin filter in convertible is to keep the large crap away from and out of the air ducts under the hood (can get quite nasty under there) and when the top is up (which is not often).

Yes you must remove the dorchester grey plastic piece under windshield and just before the hood to get to filter which is in the middle of windsheild right below the firewall.
Not easy the first time, but gets easier with time. I forget if the wipers need to come off as I have removed them permanently because I hate the way they look from inside the car!

Good luck
and remember

Your UK spec 2001 XKR will be extremely unusual if it has a pollen filter fitted.

The later XK's do have them as standard and, as with your Kia, they get clogged with dead insects, leaves etc.

A dealer A/C service will have drained the system, pressurised to check for leaks and then refilled with the correct quantities of R134 refrigerant and PAG oil.

The A/C loses around 5% refrigerant per year so it's not a 'sealed for life' system. Worth having it re-gassed yearly as this keeps the compressor and seals lubricated. My local A/C specialist charges £45 for this.

HA! Arizonians. That's pretty brilliant, actually. Especially if you've got another vehicle for the odd days it does rain.
