Anyone in the UK able to point me to someone who can unlock the phone on my 2002 XK? As its there it might as well be usable.

Someone else may know for certain but I believe that the OEM phone was analog. I'm not certain about the UK but in the US the analog phone network was turned off a number of years ago and the frequency spectrum reassigned. Therefore, even if you could turn it on, it wouldn't work. I suggest that you look for an aftermarket solution. There are many Bluetooth solutions described in this forum.

A 2002 UK spec model with OE factory phone could be fitted with a removable StarTAC in a cradle or a fixed Motorola M8989 handset. In either case, they are decorative but now non functioning.

Mine is the Motorola, so if it is analogue as you say then its never going to work. I will follow the threads that are current on the Bluetooth mods.

Mine is a 2001 model with original equipment Motorola. I just bought a pay as you go sim card and it works perfectly. I believe we went digital in the UK in the 1990s, so you will be fine with a 2002 model.

When we were a plc in the late 90's and I was in charge of telephony, we had 3 'directors' Jags with built-in motorolas, two of which were XK8s and I know for a fact that they were digital and not locked to any network and worked with Orange SIMs.

The motorola in my late 99 XK8 cabriolet will not work with a 3G only SIM (e.g. three) but does work with an 02 SIM as out of curiosity I tried it last week.

If it has a SIM card (GSM), it'll still work on today's networks. If it doesn't have a SIM card (TDMA), it will not.
