Hi everyone,
I ordered a new interior box to go where the phone was on my 2001 xk8. I didn’t realize that it would be deeper and not fit after removing the existing one that had the phone connector.
does anyone know if there is a way to convert this so it is usable for storage? There appears to be some sort of ecm in the way. (Sorry, I’m not by the car to check what it Is and I don’t remember)
seems like I saw a thread on this, but can’t find it now.
The later cars (4.2 liter models) have a module under the shallow cubby but I forget what it is? (SRS module?)
The 4.0 XK8 should have the PHONE MODULE under the shallow cubby so if you pull the phone, you should be able the remove the communication module as well.
Then the deep cubby from the sedans or XKs without the phone should work.
A comparison of my 2001 and 2005 XK8 Coupe centre consoles.
2001 XK8 - deep liner:
2005 XK8 - shallow liner:
Both had the Adaptive Restraints Module at the front. The difference with the later model was additional space required for what I think was part of the Bluetooth installation although it wasn't the module because this was behind the rear seat.
To those of you that have the bluetooth fitted, does it work with modern kit, including media playback, or is it just for calls?
My 2004 had the wired telephone handset which I've removed, and am currently looking at adding a permanent bluetooth connection for the android tablet I use as a media player and navigation system - currently just using an FM transmitter, which is ok
I had factory bluethooth in my 2005 XK8 which was OK in its day. However, Jaguar Bluetooth of the X100 era is only for calls and sixteen years is so far out-of-date for audio and telephony functions that a more recent aftermarket solution is preferable.
I use the Discount Stereo JAGCD-HF model. Love it.
BTW if you notice the CD in that model's name. Its the one that retains CD function. I never expected it, but after adding Bluetooth I've had no need for the CDs. I prefer the Bluetooth sound quality (probably helped immensely by the presence of the multi band EQ in Android's settings section) and I've got everything in my CD collection on the phone via Amazon prime music downloads.
FWIW, I signed up for Amazon's High Definition Bluetooth for a couple of bucks per month. Let's just say: without a way to A/B the high definition audio to standard, i can't say i notice any difference.
took all this apart on my 98xkr(which still has the original Motorola) when installing bluetooth/anti-antenna, you should be able to just remove the phone console and some charging-box(?) underneath it(I did) 3 or 4 Philips screws, after that you'll have a original box/tray w/o the mobile, not sure how to connect a modern mobile phone to the wiring thou,
Cheers!
This is the difference in the console box depth. The one on the left had the phone connector in it. The one on the right I bought to replace it, as the phone is of no worth today. There is a module under the box that makes the one on the right too tall. Is there a box that is shallower?
