change battery
I need a new battery for some equipment and I thought that even thpugh the jag battery is good, why not use this to keep a new battery in the jag. now, never changed one before, what should I expect?
No big deal changing the battery.
Take the ground cable off first. Inspect the woven ground cable for corrosion as this has been a source of difficult to find electrical issues.
Take the positive cable off.
Disconnect the vent hose. Make sure that the replacement battery has a vent system and connect it back up.
Careful! That is a big, heavy battery and you have to lean over more than you should to pick it up.
Removing the battery will wipe out all your radio presets and the ECM will have to relearn all the fuel trim information. No big deal. Just drive it.
I have never heard of an US sold car having the radio security codes enabled but most of the rest of the world needs to ensure that they have that code available or the radio won't work.

The radio codes are on a credit card type thing - mine was in a leather folder stored at the top of the glovebox.
I assume you're not going to keep it there, but I also assume that in 2016 that nobody is going to break into a car, remove the centre console and steal the cassette player.

Now you have. And the station presets remain in mem.; the sound adjustments (bass, treble, etc.) do not.
Even in the UK where it was the standard fitting, a lost code card is not an issue. Jaguar Dealers can lookup the code for every vehicle from the VIN using the online Direct Dealer Warranty System. Jaguar CRC have also done this for members.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned. Following a battery disconnect the window travels limits will need resetting.

Easy. Down Hold, Up Hold. Do both windows.
If the windows don't reset, repeat until they do.

Visited my Jaguar dealer in an attempt to obtain the security code for my 1998 XK8. They were unable to obtain the code so would it be correct to assume that the code for this radio was never enabled?
Possibly. The U.S. cars are not supposed to need a radio code when the battery is changed, but my 2005 S-Type did indeed require the code when I replaced the battery. My wife's 2006 XK8 has required two new batteries since we purchased it in February 2012, and in neither case did it require the code. Go figure....
