Well I was finally going to drive the Jag yesterday since I try to drive her every few weeks in the winter, and the battery was essentially dead. The car threw a ton of error messages, couldn't power the window back up, started the wipers, and that was it. I let her charge overnight and she fired right up today, but the check engine light is now on. I drove her for a bit today (since it is 30 degrees rather than negative 30 like it has been) and apart from me having difficulties seeing over snow drifts at intersections, she ran like a champ. I used her to run a few errands, so she has been started a few times, and the check engine light is still on. All the gauges are normal and it didn't throw any error messages, so will this go away on its own, or am I going to have to go in and have the codes scanned?

 

Ok, I'm just paranoid. I drove it one more time to the car wash to get the salt off and poof, no light. I swear I've read too many Jaguar horror stories and ever minor thing just about sends me off the deep end.

 

You sound just like me. Must be a height issue. I usually jump then look. I'll learn.
I think the codes will go away once you have the battery unhooked for a period of time. Like when you charge it out of the car. I'm sure someone wiser than I will respond in kind.

 

That car has a non-volatile memory, so removing the battery will not "clear" codes. If the light went out on it's own, I wouldn't sweat it. Low battery voltage can cause a slew of issues, including MIL's. After a few key cycles, and each module seeing that everyone is back "on board", so to speak....they are happy again. If you have no driveability issues, and no MIL's, go enjoy your car.

Thanks Jagtec. I just panicked for no reason when the light didn't shut off on the second start. Once it went off I figured I was gold. Hopefully the weather warms up so it isn't another month before I can drive her again

 

non volatile, as in spikes and power loses. Like a surge protected ecu? As in if the code cleared why would'nt everything else. Just trying to understand.
