Default Check rear brake light.

I have a 2006 victory edition xkr. Cruise control does not work, getting fault check rear brake lights. I have read other threads with this condition to change brake switch. Any thoughts that it is the brake switch and not something else. Thanks just trying to save my back.

Have you checked your brake lights to see if they are indeed not functioning? That should be your first step....

+1 with Jon. BTW I never heard that they ever fixed the too small ground wire from the rear light pods in any year. Maybe while you are looking pull the light pod and look at the black ground wire. It's so thin its easily overloaded and can cause issues.

Easy fix: just run a thicker guage wire from the ground plate holding al the bulbs to the nut/bolt protruding from the rear wall right next to it.

I have the same problem with my Crs. Cont. and "Check rear lights". Changed the brake switch x2 just to be sure the switch ts not the problem, light was not at fault(New switch each time). Still have the problem. Further test showed numerous fault codes, and a BPM{?} fault. Not communicating with other modules.
Jag dealer next stop for reprogrammed BPM($$$$).

Is your license plate light also out? The wires that go to the trunk lid are known to break and put the lights out. The ground wire broke on mine, fortunately there was plenty of wire there to make a repair.

Default Check Rear lights

I had the check Rear lights alert. With all lights working. Cleaned and checked all the light sockets. What I found was in one of the bulbs that has two filaments, they were shorted to each other while still connected to ground. The bulb had a grey appearance presumably the metal evaporated from the filament shorted the two filaments together
After renewing the bulbs the alert disappeared. I'm surprised the computer picked it up. Glad it was an easy fix
