Default Code 197-Oil Temp Sensor??

Just got m yXK back from 3 weeks with the local Jag Dealer. Gotta admit, they were very fair in their pricing. New Battery, New master key. I was told that the CEL with the code 197 was due to added wiring that should be removed. This is the 3 gauge 'RealGauge' addition that I added. I elected to wait until I checked all the connections. Nothing loose. Will the Oil temp sensor cause a CEL, and how hard is it to change?

Default Code Sensor/security

After getting a new Master key, I tried to recode my key extra FOB s to my XK. I went thru the procedures, and when I pulled the turn lever /High beam lever 3-5 times, I got no 'Chirp'. My original FOB did not reset, but my extra FOBS did not activate. Any ideas??

Yes it will cause a CEL, I was getting the Cell light because of oil temp p**** codes..
So got a new oil temp sensor ..
When i went to change the sensor i found that it was just hanging near the oil filter !
Reason for this was the PO must have tried to change the sensor and SNAPPED it off !

So if you do have a go at changing this sensor, take care not to do what the PO did to mine.

Others may have some tips for changing this oil sensor,
I never got to remove the snapped off sensor and came up with a hack way to attache the new sensor directly to the oil filter, and all is now well with no CEL light/codes for the oil temp sensor.

Some photos .........

MY HACK/FIX TO STOP GETTING THE CELL AND P**** CODES RELATING TO THE OIL TEMP SENSOR

Good look and proceed with caution..........

Very ingenious. Glad it worked. I will try changing mine to see if that is the problem.
The CEL came up after I pulled the instrument cluster to change the lights. Had to relocate some of the wiring for my RealGauge instruments. The Jag dealer said that they could not fix the problem without removing the 'Add-On wiring. RealGauge owner said they did not have anything attached to the Oil Temp sensor, but there was something on the oil pressure adaptor sensor. WIll likely check them all. Would like to get rid of the CEL. It is distracting to say the least.

With limited accessibility, I decided to have my local mechanic change out the temp sensor. He called today to let me know it was fixed. Seems it was a broken wire behind the instrument panel, NOT the sensor. Now I have now CEL, code, etc. Do still have a dr. side airbag light. Jag says the problem is in the wiring harness that cannot is no longer available. I get the lite and #22 code during most drives. Maybe I will just pull the bulb out the next time I pull the center instrument panel???
