I currently have an aftermarket stereo with a pop up dvd in my 99 XK8. When the car is in Park, the pop up screen hitS the shift lever on its way out and up. I want to get rid of this and put a stock xk8 radio in. So if I get one from the salvage yard, how do I bypass the security code? The junk yards do not have the codes.

Most, if not all, U.S. Cars do not need a Security Code. However, A Jaguar Dealer may be able to supply it if required.

My car has a Code Card, but I don't need it when changing Batteries. I believe that the Radios in U.S. Cars have been re-programmed to not need a Code even though they needed them when built.

 

Thanks, I never even thought about that. I know my Mercedes needs one every time the battery drains or I change it, so I ***-umed a Jaguar would be the same. I will check it out tomorrow.

I believe Mr. Pavlik is correct as my 2004 XJ8 DID NOT require a radio code to be input after I disconnected the battery to do a hard re-set. I haven't needed to do so on my '99 XK8 so I can't say for certain if the same applies. However you may have to use the older IDS scanning software to tell the entertainment module that there is a Jag radio being installed. I had to do that when I installed a Jag CD changer in my '04.

My '99 XK8 does not require a code when the battery is changed out.

 

Even if your salvaged radio needed a code, take your title/registration, and the radio, to the dealership and have them look up the code based on the numbers on the radio. I did that for a 97 Range Rover I had. Here I was, my ID, my title, my vehicle, with a radio asking for a code. The dealership didn't even blink an eye...

 

A dealer tell you the code by using the VIN,
he can´t help if you have only the radio.

 

My 1998 does not need a code (USA XK8).

 

Hence the taking the title with you....

 

After some serious thought, I asked myself "Why do you want to go to the junkyard and buy a 16 year old radio to put in your car?" Well, the answer was "Duh, I don't know!"

To make a long story short, I took the console apart and took the car to AutoSound in Bedford, Texas, and had them put in an Alpine Stereo with bluetooth, usb port, and aux. port. And they also hooked up my steering wheel controls. So I am now a happy camper. Bluetooth is great. I brought it home and will install the console tomorrow.

I want to say thanks for everyone who responded to my questions. In the end I just let common sense prevail. Plus now I have an Eclispe 3423 and amp that I will try and sell on ebay. No, you do not want it!!

Just installed my radio(Alpine 143BT) and the console and j-gate. Before I did, i went in and connected a 10 amp fuse protected hot wire (Constant Power) and ground (See Pictures. The Bullets in the middle of the pic.) These go to the double socket adapter which you can keep in the glove box. The wire runs right to the side and back of the glove box and you can close your glove box and use the sockets for a Radar detector, GPS, or what ever, without having wires running out of your cigarette lighter.

There is an aftermarket connector to hook up your Jag Radio Controls. About 100 Bucks. Anyway, I am happy.
