Default Cold Start in Arizona?

This is my first Arizona winter with my 02 XKR. Yesterday morning the temp was around 50 degrees which is the first "cool morning" of the year and when I pulled out of my outdoor parking space the thermostat was reading cold. I felt some hiccups and almost stalled until the engine warmed up. I was surprised because I didnt think that Az got cold enough to cause a problem (Im from Chicago). Do I need to let the engine warmup in the mornings in 40-50 degree weather?

To help with the experts out there, did you have the dust storm and the rain that went with the cold front as we had in Surprise, AZ yesterday?

This may have been a contributing factor???

I know some of you may be laughing out there regarding a cold front in late November dipping down to the 50's...we're really toughing it out here in AZ.

It's my first year here also coming from Lincoln, NE.

Experts???

Default Cold Start...

I am by no means an expert in fixing these beautiful beasts...however having driven my 2002 XK8 during the last two New England winters (I am near the Cape so its not so bad) I can tell you she fires right up in sub-freezing temps without a hiccup.

Hope that helps.

Smile Cold start

I run mine until the snow flies up here in Ontario. She'll start at freezing and below no problem.. Someone else mentioned that they warm up very quickly and I can confirm that. I'm up the guage before I hit the end of the street.

I will mention that some consider it a poor policy to warm-up the car before moving as nothing is achieved. Simply drive it easy for a bit and it'll warm up quicker with less wasted gas and engine wear.

Hope that helps.

My XKR loves the 40-50 degree weather, that when it runs the best.I don't think its temp related, sounds more like a sensor.Sorry to say my car went into storage on November 1st and I will bring back out into the Minnesota Spring come May 1st.So my hat is off to you guys that can drive them year round.

I have to agree with you eaglexkr my xkr seems to run the best in 40 or 50 degree with the top down windows up and the heater full blast, we're about 250 miles south of you

Don't forget the heated seats, thats my wife's favorite thing. The fall is our most enjoyable time to have the top down and heat on.
Hope someone can help on the cold starts,I would almost be willing to leave it with your dealer or shop overnight and have them run test on it when its cold, the cost of testing is a lot cheaper then the guess and replace method.

Sorry to be the poo poo note here but why the hell do folks put the top down when it is 50 or so outside. That is COLD once you are like going 2mph or more. What is the point if you have all the windows up, hat on, and heat blasting. I think it looks silly. Sorry, just my .02

Too bad you can't experience that enjoyment.Put your top up and listen to Andy Williams.

I've been known to put the top down in upper 50s weather, as long as the sun is shining. The heated seat and a little heat from below makes it pretty nice. And no, highway speeds are out of the question, i'm talking jaunts down residential streets to the store/restaurant.
