In the construction industry, high pressure hydraulic systems are common. Common mistake is to think it’s a “leave alone, it’s working” system. They need to be worked and require inspection, servicing and careful eye.
I would use the system at least once a month (helps keeps seals lubricated) and check the condition of your hoses - 2 min job by looking behind the carpet in the RHS of the trunk. Also remove the rear seats periodically as you can easily see if the hydraulic rams are leaking.
Also R&R hydraulic fluid in the pump reservoir once every 3 to 4 years depending on use.
Not many reports of failure of the pump but it’s the electrics you need to keep an eye on.
