I've moved your post from the XK/XKR section to the XK8/XKR section appropriate for your MY.

For the fluid, the recommended replacement is Pentosin CHF-11S which you can get at most NAPA autoparts or on-line

Thanks for your help. I just purchased this 1997 and the used car dealer I bought it from (not a jaguar dealer) said they flushed the system and refilled it with clear power steering fluid. Maybe I should drain it and refill with the fluid you suggested.

I would do a flush and refill with Pentosin. This is not rocket science, but why take a chance?

Has anybody discovered a way to flush the convertible top fluid that does not require pulling the header rail upper trim panel to get to the hydraulic hoses that connect to the latch assembly?

No.

The hoses have to be removed from the latch cylinder and hung over the windshield and into a container.

The affect that very high temperature might have on the PS fluid is unknown and not worth taking a chance of having a clear shower of the stuff.

Thanks. That's what I thought.

I bit the bullet yesterday and removed the hoses from the latch cylinder in order to flush the system. It wasn't overly difficult. It took me a few hours from start to finish, but I was being slow and methodical.

It was a good thing I flushed the hoses as there was plenty of yellow goop in the hoses and the latch.
