Convertible, no question. As quiet as a coupe with the top closed, but with the joy of being able to drive it open - with its fantastic heater, even in cold weather. Also much more practical, Open the top and you can pile things very high on the back seat, as I know having recently transported a big armchair. Loaded it upside-down with the back of the chair resting on the back seat, the base of the chair sitting behind, on the boot and folded hood. Worked a treat.

No police around , fortunately.

Default Convertible, no question

I've owned three verts and a few cars with sunroofs. I just love the fresh air and heightened sense of speed. A convertible almost makes me feel like I do when I'm on a motorcycle ... almost. The coupe is gorgeous, of course. But so is the convertible, just different. Top down it is just so low and sleek. When the top is up I love the contrast of the black top against my car's platinum paint. At least once a day I tell her how beautiful she is. My wife has suggested I consider seeking professional help.

I have the vert, it's a boat affair for me too. I like the coupe a lot but I bought a Cayman instead for the spirited days.

Both convertible and coupe are great, but I lean towards the coupe.
Sold my black XKR in 24 hrs after posting it to a chap who loved the lines.
Its all in the the eye of the beholder...

The only thing keeping the convertibles from walking away with this poll is that the coupes look so good, which is extremely important but driving with the top down is so much fun on a nice day and the visibility can't be beat. Left, right, and up. It's a tough choice, a personal one for sure.
Once a bird crapped on my head at 65 MPH (my speed, not his). That's hard to do. I cannot estimate the speed of the falling crap but it was right on target.
The good news is that the poop did not hit the car.
This would not happen in a coupe but we Jaguar drivers are a tough lot and a little bird poop on the head doesn't rattle us so this story does not affect the poll.
I included this information for entertainment purposes only, but it really did happen.

Having side by side owning both an X100 Convertible (12 years) and X150 Coupe (4 years), I find I enjoy them both for different reasons. I think the X100 Convertible has a better trunk, especially since it does not share space with the top; however the cost is using a manual snap on cover on the X100 versus the automated hard deck affair of the X150. The X150 Coupe is no contest on trunk space; the X150 Coupe with the hatch is WAY more space and useful than the X100 Coupe trunk.

Comparing X100 Convertible to Coupe, I think the convertible makes good use of the trunk space for a convertible, and the coupe because its a trunk versus a hatchback, is not as good of use as it could be. Aside from that, the X100 has the top hydraulics issues; I am fixing mine now and likely selling the car this year after a long ownership. No roof hydraulics issues on the coupe for not mysterious reasons. The rear seats are garbage in both coupe and convertible but at least you have the possibility of unlimited headroom in the convertible. I have ridden in both of my cars in the backseat in an emergency. It literally was painful at 5'10". So, I've talked practicality so far. So far, you're not giving up a lot of practicality in the X100 convertible! It doesn't handle as sharp as the coupe, but neither handle great, but the coupe is better. Jaguar did a really nice and well insulated soft top on the X100 and with a heated glass rear window that was properly made and built to handle the weight. It's quiet and holds up extremely well. I give the points to the convertible overall, even with the hydraulic hose issues; which if you are DIY person (god I hope you are given the needs and age of these cars; I've had a great time but these aren't a 90s Civic) you can resolve for under a grand forever.

In summary, if you understand the X100 is NOT a raw sports car, but rather a nice GT car, and appreciate wind in your hair, I'd be hard pressed to recommend the coupe over it.

And open top means open top for poop too lol. I have really long hair and wear it bunned and with a hat.

Default Coupe has better lines

I much prefer the lines of the XK coupe. wish sun roof was available for cool, sunny days.

I have had both and prefer the coupe. PR is too hot for a convertible most of the year. Putting the top down at any time other than the night means wearing suncreen, sunglasses, a tight fitting hat, and blasting the A/C while the top is down. Finally, you better make sure that you brought a change of clothes to wherever you’re going because you are now drenched in sweat and need to shower.

I much prefer the coupe since I am not going to be driving topless most of the year.

Talking Bofe 'em

I think my convertible looks gorgeous with the top down (and the tonneau cover properly installed and tucked in). It never fails to get me compliments whenever I stop the car anywhere. But, like giandaniel, I don't like driving it in the summer heat with the top down, or on the highway at high speed with trucks bearing down on me. The coupe is also gorgeous, and stands out in a crowd. Now I just have to find a way to justify getting a coupe !

Why would anyone go to the trouble of registering on the forum to reply to a thread last used 10 YEARS AGO when they have apparently already sold their Jaguar .......

...... then logout immediately after posting and not come back to look at replies. That is beyond bizarre.

Much too hot and humid during our miserable summers to drop the top in my wife's 2006 XK8. October / November is by far the best top-down time of the year in our neck of the woods....

Jon, I have a different opinion for the following reasons- Even with our heat and humidity I more often than not run topless in the summer, especially in the mornings and evenings. Not good if I am going into traffic like you have in Raleigh, though! Out here in the country where there is less traffic and less stop lights, the moving air while driving in a convertible really attenuates the heat. The XK8 and the TR7 both topless most of the time!
I will always vote for a convertible in any poll, even one that is 10 years old, since someone bothered to revive it!

Nick,

I understand. Some folks love summer's heat and humidity, but not me. My goal every summer is just to survive it. I love autumn and winter....

Aikerpal, bit of an overreaction to a valid question. I don't think it was intended as a criticism since it is unusual for a member to respond to such an old posting even after they sold their Jag. Graham is a long-time respected Moderator and his question didn't warrant such an insulting response. But I guess you won't be reading this, anyway, as it appears that you're leaving the fold.

I'm absolutely devastated that you are leaving us. The loss of such an acerbic wit, your polished repartee, insight and depth of knowledge will leave us all the poorer. I appreciate your talents will be in great demand and we must be eternally grateful for the enormous contribution you have made here but we cannot expect you to afford us any more of your precious time.

However, in case you should have a last minute change of heart, I've banned you. Every member must comply with the terms and conditions and being offensive towards other members is not permitted.
