Default Convertible top -- liner removal

I have a 2002 XK8 convertible. Is it possible to simply remove the top liner? It has a few stains on it, and it would be great if I could remove it and take it to a dry cleaners. I noticed there seems to be a snap holding it up above the side windows, but don't know about the rest of it. Just thought I'd ask. Thx.

I am sorry to say that 'the rest of it' is not that easy. It is attached with pop rivets which must be drilled out and then replaced. It is actually a fairly big job to remove and replace and only makes sense if you are replacing it.

Replacements can be had for about $150 on ebay, and can be installed by an auto upholstery shop. It is not DIY unless you are a fairly dedicated DIY'er.

Most of the time they stain because the foam between the inner and outer fabric deteriorates. Even you if do clean it, the stains will return in fairly short order.

The convertible headliner design changed in mid-2001 from a two piece (separate rear window) to a one piece design. If you buy one on ebay for a 2001, you need to determine which you have.

I had same issue but refinished mine in black. I used vinyl and fabric spray. Was a fairly tedious job, but looks amazing!! Although my interior is black so it looks fitting. I have touched it up once in 5 years. Changed the feel a bit, more suede feeling, but several others have done it and same great results. I think I posted a thread on it with photos.

Brake cleaner spray will evaporate the stains out in just a moment. They will slowly come back but brake cleaner is cheap.
