Default convertible top operation

I have a 1998 XK8 convt. I can't open the roof with the switch on the center console, but it operates using the key in the drivers door. In the roof operation, does the console switch and the door lock switch use all the same circuits (ie-fuses, relays, etc)?

In this situation, can I isolate the failure to the console switch?

Yes, it is most likely the console switch, but remove the shifter surround first and make sure it is actually plugged in. An absent minded tech could have left it unplugged after service.

See first part of video.
