Default Convertible Top Ticking

Starting in the last few days, when the 'vert top goes down all the way, there is a ticking noise from the area where the top folded into. It's not from the pump and it doesn't seem like the pump is running. If I raise the top again a little it stops and I can let it fall back down and it doesn't tick.

Anyone know what this is?

Will the ticking go on endlessly if you do nothing?

Do you get the confirmation 'DING' sound when the top is fully down?

I drove it for about 45 min today with the top down and could still hear it when I stopped. It definitely seems like it's coming from the center area behind the rear seats and not the pump area. Is there anything behind there?

The gas tank is behind there. But since raising the top and lowering it again stops the noise, it appears that it is somehow related to the top, not the gas tank.

Your speakers are left and right of the rear seat. Could the noise be coming from the speakers?

Red face Found It!

Okay guys, I found the problem. I wrote up an extensive step-by-step (only one step needed) procedure on fixing it, and then I did a Youtube video. Then I threw those away and decided to just post a picture of the culprit (attached).

That's my daughter's Furreal Friends puppy. It fell down in behind and, when the top came down, it would push on it. The puppy tries to wag its tail if it's touched and since it couldn't move it would just slip on its gearing and make a rapid clicking. I was feeling around for vibrations and found a lump - it took me about 10 minutes to free it.

I'm not proud of myself for thinking this way, but that puppy could provide the core element for a new, uh, feature on a friend's car (hey, I owe him one).

A belated April Fool's joke perhaps? Or going to save it for next year?

Timing: that's the thing, isn't it? You have to wait long enough for the other guy to sort of forget about things, but not so long that he doesn't know immediately who got him.

All in good fun, honestly.

What a hoot! Just sat down to catch up on new posts after a business trip. I almost fell out of my chair laughing after reading this one.
