Default Coupe Roof Console Bracket is discontinued?

I have a coupe and the mounting bracket for my roof console broke at some point. My roof console is hanging from the front bit. According to SNG Baratt's catalogue, this is my part #: HJA2068AC.

However, I can't for the life of me find any place that sells it or has any in stock. Most sites claim the part is either on backorder, or discontinued, with no mention of it being superseded by another part.

Was it superseded by another part? Is there a solution or do I have to keep driving with the roof console resting on the rearview mirror?

Since there weren't many coupes imported in the US it will be hard to find a used one. Maybe some of our English or Continental members would check with local breakers for the part. But I expect it's plastic and too fragile to survive removal.

I wonder if the convertible bracket could be used as a starting point to fabricate one?

Jaguar stops supporting their automobiles after 10 years; you'll probably have to find one from a car being parted out. Email Jim Shaub, a fellow forum member, at shop@soughtout1.net and see if he has one available from the XK8's he is parting out. Good guy, good prices....

According to Jaguar classic parts it is no longer available. But is is common to the convertibles so you should not have a problem finding a used one eventually.

Is this the bracket that the roof console light and break sensor fits to?

Ask as there's a UK ebay seller that has 14 used consoles for sale, if they've so many it may be worthwhile asking them if they can source the bracket it fits to?

The convertible bracket is #3 in the illustration, not the same.

I emailed Jim Shaub, I’m waiting for a reply.

Marky, what ebay seller were you referring to?

Jim replied, he said that he does have a coupe, but the bracket is rubbish. He gave me a link to welsh, but to the convertible’s bracket (that’s the one that ends in AB, right?).

How would I go about fabricating a new, hopefully more durable bracket?

I believe the convertible bracket will fit the mounting holes in the coupe. I think they are around $10, so why not get one as I suggested in post #2 and see if you can use it as a starting point?

I've always had good luck finding Parts through Jagbits.com.....If you don't see it call them as they have access to several sources...

I called Welsh, Tom told me that his suppliers might have one in stock. He will double check with them to make sure and if so, then he will call me to confirm the order and ship it.

If he doesn’t have it, then I will call Jagbits.

Edit: Tom called back and said his suppliers don’t have one. He said he will keep calling around in case one turns up.

If I ever do get a hold of one, how do I proceed to create a CAD file so that we may fabricate new ones to sell them to those owners who need one?

I 3D print as a hobby but am terrible at CAD. I use tinkercad.com. That would be my first step.

If I recall - I thought Jaguar Heritage Trust/Jaguar Calssic Parts was now going to carry parts for our XK8/R's. You could always contact them although probably a steep price

Jagbits has a used one. Dan claims it is intact, but the $65 price tag is steep. I am really thinking twice about it but my chances of finding another one are close to 0.

Mr.Puerto Rico,
Sometimes you just have to pay the price! What happens if you don't?
Think about it...…

Buy the intact used one. Then take a ton of pics and measurements and play with cad.

I did end up buying it and they had trouble with my billing address. Haha! I double checked with the bank and it was correct. So their IT department did some super secret hacking stuff and forced the system to accept my billing address. I did save about $6.50 thanks to the jaguarforums discount code.

Now I need to learn how to use CAD so that no one else has to go on wild goose chase with this part.

Cool Puerto Rico.....

Take photos as you put it together so all can see what you've done!
Those old Boys can do wonders for you as they have several outlets beside JagBits…..They've even got one in Kalamazoo!!

Alright, will do. They still haven't sent me tracking information, so I imagine they haven't shipped it yet.

The bracket arrived today. It indeed is intact.

I just got home a few minutes ago, but it is 1:36 am. Tomorrow I will take many pictures and measurements of the bracket to share with you guys.

Hopefully we can lay the foundation for making new ones.
