courtesy door light drivers side{Left} door
have a 99 jaguar xk8 convertible and the drivers door courtesy light at the bottom will not come on. popped the lense and replaced the bulb and still nothing am wondering where the switch that tells it the door is open is located . was reading about a micro switch in the door latch assembly but from my understanding after reading that switch controls the window lowering 3/4 in. and reraising upon closing. this is functioning so that switch isnt the culprit. any ideas ?

It is controlled by by the door control module computer...it is not switched directly. Are you sure the connector at the rear of the light is plugged in?... Mechanics have been known to accidentally leave it unplugged when the door panel is removed.
Do all other door related functions work, window drops and stays dropped until door closed, dome lights come on, key in reminder works? If so then it's localized to just the light or the controller.
removed door panel. light is plugged in no power to wires b4 light socket . traced wire back and it goes thru the door to the interior area near the fuse box . whats next to check ?
Have a closer look and see figure 10.1 here: http://jagrepair.com/images/AutoRepa.../jagxk1999.pdf
The 'puddle lamps' are powered from the Driver door modules in the door, not the fusebox directly.

from looking at the wiring diagram seems the micro switch may be the culprit seeing as it is the only thing passing power into the module and then going to the puddle lamp is this the switch in the lock assembly ?
Doing some more work on the car today. Got all the side marker lights working tho one needs a good rap now and then to light up. Will have to check the socket or replace it if i can find it. Then the dreaded restricted performance code. Looked on the forum... connected the code scanner... and traced it to the knock sensor bank 2. Found the location for same on the forum and low and behold the connector at the thermostat tower was loose . (btw the knock sensors can be had for around 30 bucks if you look for them online) Anyhow looked down at the puddle lamp and its now working so evidently something was / is loose so if it fails again ill re try all the connectors and clean all or replace. Thanks to all for the help and insight. THE FORUM ROCKS .
Does anyone out there have a diagram for the "puddle light" assembly, meaning the lens, bulb holder and shroud? I cannot get the thing together. I may be missing a piece, and absolutely should have photographed prior to disassembly.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Thanks Johnken,
There are actually 4 components to #6 on the diagram. I'm wondering if an exploded diagram of this detail exists. It does not seem to want to reassemble.
Looks simple. Isn't.

Max, I got this from the SNG Barrett catalog. Many folks on this site have access to exploded views on a software package one can download for free. I just never could get it to work with Vista.
Maybe someone has more details for you.

My drivers window on my 2002 xk8 convertible returns to the top when the door is open, this makes closing the door a bit of an issue. When I lift the handle up it drops as it should. But as soon as i release the handle it returns to the top.. I have tried retraining the window but no success. I have since noticed the interior light doesnt come on when the door is open. It does when I switch it on..The passenger side works as it should. Im assuming its a faulty door sensor but I cant find it. Any ideas please. Thanks in advance.

If the lights really aren't coming on and if the you get a door ajar on the dash you can bet that it is the a micro switch in the door latch mechanism... They are not that hard to get out BUT (unless you have another car) I wouldn't start taking things apart until you have the CORRECT switches in hand and a good game plan aka pointers from folks here. It's fiddly business,,, them door switches.
