Cruise control doesn’t work

I have a 2000 Jaguar XKR convertible with 97,000 miles on it. When you push the set cruise button you can feel a real slight tug on pedal then it lets go and doesn’t hold. There are no messages etc. many thanks

Engine or Chassis codes/faults will disable the speed control.
