Dashboard squeak
I have a beautiful XK8 convertible.
I had this squeak coming from the dashboard. It would come and go for no reason. It was hard to tell exactly where it was coming from. The steps I took were:
1. Removed and checked the vents along the top of the dashboard.
2. Removed centre consul and checked clips.
3. Removed centre A/C vent.
4. Removed instruemnt panels.
5. Removed side vents.
6. Removed speakers.
All to no avail.
Finally I lubricated the bonnet latches. Guess what? Squaek is gone. It looks as if I need new rubber bonnet stoppers too.
I hope this saves someone a lot of trouble and frustration.

I have the same problem. Thank you for mentioning this. Since I have failed Welsh mounts, must eliminate the obvious.
Question: what did you use to lubricate the bonnet latches? I was thinking of synthetic grease.
In addition, check the strut to windshield frame braces. There is a TSB that some of them were not torqued sufficiently.
