Default Dealer Service Database? Fact or Fiction?

My brother is looking to buy an XK8 and has come to me for assistance. He found a nice prospect (2002 vert) in the used car inventory of a regular Jaguar dealership. I suggested he ask the service dept to run a VIN history on the car from the Jag North America records, they said there was no such thing as a national database of dealer-based service histories available by VIN numbers.

What's up? I thought such records were available through a national database.

Through ddw based on warranty repairs done and at what dealership. Then you would have to contact those dealer/s and ask them to please please send the maintenance repair history they have. There is no national maintenance records. Only warranty can be seen on ddw through jaguar. Or contact previous owner/s

So there is NO database wherein the VIN can determine what dealerships have performed work on the car?

I thought the DDW (Direct Dealer Warranty) is the dealer printout which details all the serial numbers and codes for various warranty parts and labor done under warranty on the vehicle. What would happen when a Jag under warranty gets work done at different dealerships??

uhhh, gordo isnt that what i said??? Yes there is for WARRANTY work
Ddw "only" pertains to warranty repairs done in the dealer network, but does not show non warranty maintenance or repairs. But once you know where the warranty work was done you can contact those dealers and ask for "thier" in house history for other work done, like brakes, belts hoses, alignments etc......
