Did I Discover something or Just Lucky?
i've reset the windows plenty of times, but this time i had a new alternator installed. While driving home i noticed the radio was completely dead. I fooled around with it a bit, check fuses, etc. and nothing. So i was prepared to return the car so my mechanic could trouble shoot it. Just for the heck of it i engaged the radio power button while turning the key to on and "viola!", it lit right up and now it works fine...
Just typical jag gremlins or is this a procedure that is recommended.
(did a quick search, and didn't find related info)

Well, My guess is that the radio went into a security lock mode when the alternator was changed. (Presumably, the battery was disconnected!) Typically, you must enter a code to unlock it and resume radio operation. You may have beat the "system" by doing what you did! Interesting....
Other posts here have suggested that US models don't use radio security codes. I know mine doesn't as I have disconnected the battery many time and have never needed a code to restart the radio.

All we kneed now is for one of our Brit cousins who has a code to disconnect his battery and try to reset the radio using this procedure. Then we will know for sure.

Previous Owner supplied me with a security code for the radio; However after being on a flat battery for days Windows needed resetting however radio still played; Have not yet needed to disconnect the battery for complete proof.
This is what I can testify from Continental Europe...
