How does one remove original door sills? XK8 2001.

There is a plate/cover over the screws on the sill (the part with writing on it). It is taped to the rest of the sill and can be removed by hitting the edge sill cover with a heat gun then lifting one side of that cover. I find using a thin brass wire pulled under the cover as a heat gun is applied down the top of the cover takes a couple of minutes to remove the cover with writing on it. The screws take a couple of minutes more.

Cleaning the old tape can be a pain, easiest to use the 3M solvent designed for it:

OK, I have removed my plate wery carefully - what is the best way to put the plate back.
