Default Driver side window issue

Just got back from the dealership. Our driver side window was not going up and down properly. When you got out of the car the window rolled down half inch as it should. However, it rolled back up as soon as the handle was released before the door was closed. So, the door would not shut properly. Windows have been recalibrated many times. Battery voltage is fine. Dealer said we need a new drivers door module and that part is now OBSOLETE!!! They had NO fixes for our issue. Any thoughts, insight or help??

T&D,
Look several things have changed over the years, but wth let's get the ball rolling with a couple of questions that certainly would apply to a 97 or 98. Let's see what you've got.

You in drivers seat. Car running. Open door - does it say drivers door open on dash? Close door, same question.

Debbie, Tom is outside. Holding handle / releasing handle, does display info change? (Iow does handle position = door open warning?)

Door open, is puddle light on? Door close, puddle light status? Yes I know, a few yrs before 2005 they changed puddle light trigger, but I'm just wondering.

Countless people have fixed this with the 2 things you mentioned. I'm beginning to suspect a bad microswitch - car doesn't know if door is open or closed. That's why I started by asking about dash message display. I think that is the same for all years.

You didn't mention doing a hard reset. It has fixed stranger things. You do not lose radio presets, though if you're not USA, you may need radio anti theft code.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Touch positive battery terminal, hold for 20 seconds.

Reconnect negative battery cable. Start car. Reset window travel (again :-) ). See if it helped.

Let us know, especially about door open message(s).

John

ERROR.

Wrong " Disconnect negative battery cable. Touch negative battery terminal, hold for 20 seconds.
The word in bold should be positive ie batt neg cable touched to positive terminal.
I suggest you edit your post to avoid confusion.

Time for a new door latch assembly microswitch. Quite a few of us have sourced them from www.mouser.com. The part number is D2SW-3L3MS. Remove the old microswitch from your existing assembly and solder in the new one. There are multiple threads and videos here on the forum showing you how to do this repair. Use the search function and type in "XK8 door latch microswitch replacement" and read all about it. I would order two new microswitches because sooner or later you will have to do this repair to the other side as well....

Thanks for the insight...I'll walk thru your ideas....
dash does not say door open and puddle light does not come on...anytime
I did a hard reset and nothing has changed.
I rechecked the battery voltage and it's at 12.8.

Stroud, then that seals it - the car thinks the door is closed. The microswitch in the door latch is not working.

A bit of a pita to replace, but plenty of instructions here. If I can do it so can you mate.

The switch is available from Mouser Electronics. Part number available here with a quick search. Just noticed Jon provided 4u.

Let me launch 1 quick question as a courtesy to you.

Folks:
What else does the door module manage that we can verify works to eliminate door module is not the culprit? I clearly remember, from previous discussion, that puddle lights are no longer managed by door lock switch alone after 1999 or thereabouts.

Does mirror movement or memory (seat or mirrors) use door module?

Answered:

Just looked at 1998 jaguar electronics workshop manual.

DRIVER DOOR CONTROL MODULE
Controls:

Window movement
Driver seat movement
Seat heaters
Mirror power fold back
Lumbar support pump

Any of these still working? Yes? Replace switch.

Thanks Johnken...I checked out the door mod and what it controls....everything works as advertised, so....time to replace the microswitch.

Thanks Jon89...I used the web site and part number you provided and have a couple of switches ordered. Also, I'm positive I'll be using the threads and videos you pointed me to for replacing that thing.

This has been a great help....Thanks again!!!!
