Hello all. I have a 2003 XK8 Convertible. The drivers seat back recline does not stay locked or work at all. I lifted the seat cover to see this left hand motor attached in the pic wired but just hanging loose and not connected to the rod with the teeth. The right hand motor turns on when the seat lever is lifted. This one is quiet. I guess the previous owner was obviously messing with it. I have not bench tested it yet but for the life of me can't find the part number labeled on the motor. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!
The Jaguar part # is GJE4713AA, but NLA from anywhere I can find, and was silly money anyway.
If yours shows dead on a bench test you may need to resort to a breaker. The # changed from GJA4713AA with the intro of the 2001MY so one from an early car may not be a drop-in replacement.
If it tests OK then possibly seat switch pack or seat control module. You can swop the latter with the passenger side to check if the fault moves with the module.

I dont think the part I pictured is the right part. It doesn't look the same as ones pictured for 97-03 and since it was just hanging by the wires and not installed may explain why it's not working. I did find this part number 0390201617 which claims to be 97-03 and is available. I'll look at the passenger motor to get a bead on it.
You need to look around some more. It seems you have actually located the headrest motor. The headrest has it very own flaw, the short version being that Jaguar fitted a square-ended cable that was too short to reliably engage the headrest mechanism. This is fortunately very fixable at home by shortening the sleeve/sheath the cable rotates in.
Separately, if your seat back does not work, it is likely a problem with the control module. The short of it is to swap driver and passenger side modules to see if it works again. If so, these modules can be repaired at minimal expense as well. Modules are under the front edge of the lower cushion. 2 nuts and a few connectors.
I think I have solved the problem. The motor I took out, which was just hanging there, is for a Mercedes. I found a pic of the frame and a pic of the correct motor on EBay. You never know what you will find in a used car!
