Question Early throttle body interchange-ability

Question for you guys that may have more access to part number cross reference than most of us.
XK8 '97, '98, '99, etc.
I see some listings for throttle bodies that span a range of years/VINs/part numbers. The part numbers are stamped on the TB. In my case I need the one with the vacuum can on the top of the APP/throttle cable arm. How much cross over is workable for parts swapping?

My '97, VIN 16878 has TB# 96JV-9E926-AJ (I don't know if it is the original).
I'm looking at a NOS unit, TB# 98JV-9E926-BA that is claimed to "fit" the XK from beginning to VIN 31302. Of course it will bolt on but will it "work", plug & play?

I'm wondering what the part number is for the TB fix for Service Action S514? This note from Gus ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...66/#post344631 ) shows S514 VIN group but the part number I'm looking at is obviously two years and several revisions later. It looks identical to mine on the outside.

Other TB part numbers I see out there that may plug and play:
96JV9E926AG (older than mine?), 96JV9E926AJ (mine).

Of course I would like to get the latest revision that will plug & play. It seems obvious that the last two letters in the part number are revision codes. Is there a list that shows how far this number goes? And what are compatible with my '97?

Thanks in Advance for the help
Mike

Perhaps a dealer parts department could tell you what the latest part number is for your particular vin. That would put an upper limit on the revision number you can consider.

It's a nice thought but the Jag dealers around here are not very forthcoming with info like that for us DIY owners. Particularly when they aren't going to see any revenue out of the discussion and the parts on the street I'm asking about are running about 25% or less of dealer prices. I can't blame them, they're in the business to sell stuff and make money.

Any AJ26 throttle from XJ/XK will work on your car. The REALLY old ones had chrome plated plastic vacuum actuators.

Here is the replacement part number for the ECMs that could not be reconfigured and had the throttles replaced. You can use the throttles even if the ECM has been reconfigured.

Bob that is precisely the information I needed. As a bonus I now understand why my car got the reflash and not a replacement TB. Thank you very much.
