Default Electrical issue

Have to ask for a little help when I got this car is was and still is pretty dead. I have replaced the battery and have the radio and fan working but every other system is still dead windows, roof, lights and starter. I have checked every fuse and have power to every fuse box that is shown for this car and all are good. Any ideas on where to look I am pretty good with this kind of stuff keep a range rover going for 20 years and had to rewire door panels and alarm system to keep it running. But I am at a loss as what to check next any ideas. I plan to ask this question in another place in case it does not belong here. This is the other place, 1999 XK8

Do you have a good OBD scanner like Icarsoft or Foxwell? You might run some full scans to see what info you get back

I guess you've no real information on the car's history. With so many issues, there may be a problem with one of the car's networks (thinking SCP possibly).

As above, I'd recommend you invest in an OBD reader as a first step.

P.S. You've done the correct thing by starting this new thread as your other isn't relevant to this issue

Let's think about this from a logic perspective...you've got radio and fan. So you've got power going to both the back and the front of the car. What's not working is ALSO in the back or front of the car. What would keep windows from rolling up? What would keep a top from functioning? What would tell the ECU "under no circumstances start this car"? My guess? Body Processor Module in the footwell has become damaged or disconnected. Invest in a iCarsoft reader and it'll tell ya.

Read the car with the one you have and see what it returns. Post any codes it returns up here:- just the codes, not any text interpretation of them.

For something more advanced, the icarsoft mentioned by $2500 & Pantera seems popular - LR1, I think? There are others - lots of opinions, thankfully not as many as 'which oil should I use'

I have both the icarsoft and the Foxwell. My icarsoft is loaded with software specifically for Jaguar/Landrover
I also have JLRSDD software on a laptop but for most things, it is not necessary

I have an ebay Bluetooth OBD2 adapter and the JLR iCarSoft reader. the bluetooth adapter and Torque Pro app is amazing for reading from the ECU but cannot read anything else. The iCarsoft reader is (IMO) inferior for the ECU, but is capable of reading all the other modules beside the ECU.

What is your step by step procedure for trying to use the icarsoft to read the ECU module ?

In future, please state the full code. If those were P codes then there are threads you can read with fixes. Also get your car's jag doc from JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

They were all P codes thought I was asked to just post the codes I got without any thing else, when I get the new reader tomorrow I will troubleshoot from that. Do not mind doing the work was just asking for a starting point to check this out.

That's probably my bad for saying don't include text Readers usually include a description as well as the code, but said descriptions are often incorrect.

The prefix is important, as you will likely see with the iCarsoft. Expect C, B and U in addition to P-codes.

OK - forget the readers that don't communicate. You can also ignore the P1000 for now, as that's just telling you that the Onboard Monitoring tests haven't completed (happens when the battery is disconnected or the codes are cleared).

Here's a snip from the DTC list for the other codes you have:

At this stage, those codes don't explain why the car is dead, although I'd double check the fuses and relay in the Engine Management fusebox re the P0560 (the ECM partly controls power to itself so it can perform shutdown tasks after the ignition is switched off).

However, at least it's reporting something. Suggest you clear the codes, and re-read to see which re-occur. As you've changed the battery, check that you have around 12.6 volts across the battery terminals at rest. These care are very particular about battery voltage.

Since you don't have the backstory, it can be challenging to troubleshoot - entirely possible as suggested that someone left something disconnected. Just keep on eliminating things. Any signs of rodent damage?

No sign of rodent damage just signs the car has been outside for a long time. When I get the better reader I will get in gear and try to really get into this I enjoy a challenge. That was my bad on the codes I knew what you were asking I just forgot to put the P in front of the codes.

While you are waiting for your better code reader, I think I would be checking power and grounds again all round the car with a test bulb, rather than a multimeter. It sounds most likely that you don't have good power or ground somewhere vital when the ignition switch is on. Either way it costs nothing to check.

I don't know this era car but does it have PATS?

If it does and it chooses not to start it will flash a code saying why.

He said windows and lights don't work - there is something much more basic wrong with the car.

True. I think the only indication would be the red led by the gear lever on the 4.0 cars which blinks when locked - maybe the OP can tell us what it is doing?
