Engine Bay Paint...

The primer their using is probably a urethane or expoxy with a hardner, with color added. The silver cars use a off white, might be the actual color of the primer Then the basecoat (metallic) and the finish clearcoat. That's why you don't see any metallic in the engine bay, one of the reasons the drip rails on the front fenders aren't painted and why your body color won't match.
It isn't a special paint or an additional process, just leaving the guide coat without applying the clear gloss.

Graham thanks for that I am truly grateful. I shall get in contact with my sprayer man and see what I can get hold of.
Having done a lot of research on the web it appears a lot of people have had the same question. You work has sorted it. No doubt the word will spread now.
A little surprised though as to why Jaguar did not reply to my original email.
Thanks again.

Update.
Went to see my friendly sprayer today. He just used a grey primer under the paint. It looks like Jaguar have their own undercoat/primer. I shall have to see if I can get the paint code for it. It is obviously Zircon Blue but a cheaper Matte paint.
Between my sprayer and helpful guys on this forum I may just get it sorted.

Update.
So many paint options out there. There are lots of Zircon Blue base coats out there but the ones I have seen just require a lacquer on top, I suspect its what I have already but with the lacquer to protect it.

I think Tony from Paragon may have answered that question(Post #7) Of all of the engine compartments he's refinished I would say he probably knows. I'm guessing they put a non metallic base color in the primer. He may even have the paint codes for that.
Any reason to think the Paint Code for the primer is different from the body colour? The code just identifies the shade.
