Default security sounder

hi I have a 97 xk8 and I just love this car. I am having a little problem finding the security sounder. Mine is not working I know the system is arming because I have set it off by accident. It does not make a sound when it is armed. I would be okay with the flashing lights but in the bright sun it can be hard to tell when its on. so please direct me if anyone knows where it is. I have looked numerous times. I am sure that there is one at least in the video it makes a sound.
thanx

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

more than likely it was programed by the previous owner for"silent arming".

You know its on by the blinking red led light on your transmission shifter, where you shift from park to drive.

Mine has an anti tilt sensor-i tried jacking my car up, it went off, opened the door or trunk it went off, and an infrared motion sensor on the dash board.
So no need for an aftermarket system.
Trust me, your not getting this car started without being found by the police eventually, the was Jaguar set the entire system up and modules communicating with one another. And if ever at a dealer, the system will tell them if its the original model, original key vin number etc, when hooked up to a diagnosis machine, no way around that.

Requires a scanner that has the ability to access the security functions of the car.

The sounder sits just behind and beneath your right headlamp. You might have to remove the right front wheel and wheel well liner to see it.

When poking around in the darker and less accessible recesses of the XK8, it often helps to know what you are looking for!

Security Sounder is item 4 in the Parts Catalogue diagram:

Yep, yours is probably just turned off. Mine sounds like someone gently squeezed a chipmunk.

If the only way to change the sounder options is with an advanced scanner, any particular scanner brand and model we should be looking for, or is this something that will force us go to the dealer to reset?

Thanks

The dealer is the only way to get into the body control module to adjust security settings.

Sensitivity can be adjusted, valet parking timing can be adjusted, timing of the alarm noise, a whole bunch of stuff, headlight flashing etc etc etc.

The reason I would suggest you have the sounder turned on, is because, it is a backup alarm source.

The charge for this service is a hour, and requires a consultation with the technician to go over all of your settings at the time of appointment.

I hope Motorman chirps in on this. Don't know if he has this capability or not. Probably does.

I don't think a 9 month old thread is worth commenting on and HappyHarry lives in Illinois.
Also............ Somewhere in the back of my mind I think the 1997 did not have a sounder or was not configured or...............

I think there was a bulletin but that was more than a decade ago and I have slept since then!!!!

I don't really remember. sorry

Anyone with a WDS or IDS etc. can enable/disable DEALER OPTIONS for the control modules.
