Engine light on
Hello all,
I have a 99 xk8 with 106k. The engine light keeps comming on when my wife drives the car. We only drve this car very occasionaly, like only a few hundred miles a month in the summer. Our trips are usually at least 30-50 miles in each direction. Anyway the engine light came on a couple of weeks ago and the code was P 04055. I checked on the forum and this is a evap system code. Since I had just filled it up I just took the gas cap off and cleaned around it and reset the engine light thinking maybe the cap did not seal, and if that wasn't the problem then the light would come right back on. All was fine for about a whole tank of gas. Today the light came back on and at one point was blinking and the information center read restricted performance. THe codes now are p4055 p0301 (misfire on cylinder1) p1313 and p1000. I am thinking a more serious problem in the evap system and maybe a bad coil on the number one cyclinder. It also crossed my mind that maybe the battery might be weak. I keep it on a battery tender in the winter but I don't know how old it is. Any sugestions before I just start randomly replacing parts?
