My 2000 XK8 jag convertible engine light went on after AAA towing company came and unhooked battery hooked as hooked it backup. Since then the engine light won't go off. Wasn't on before that. No codes show up when Pep boys checked. We Have unplugged negative black cable as recommended but engine light still on. Anybody have ideas? Car runs fine, no issues. Thanks for any help!

You didn't disconnect the cable with the engine running, did you?

 

This is a common alternator fault caused by a shorted field diode ....ign OFF warning light ON. New alternator or diode pack. This applies to what in the UK is called the ignition warning light not an engine fault light. Most alternator faults allow the alternator to still give some charge thought this may be as low as 8A.
