engine stalled message
Starting/stopping all day (running fine) and then on the way home rpms drop to nothing and I roll to a stop. Dash says "engine stalled". I shut it off and fired it back up, went about a block and the same thing. Repeated cycle and drove it home ok (10 min to house)
Sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks,
Marv

RE: engine stalled message
XK,
I take it this is a '97 XK8, and that you checked for DTC codes and got none?
And you had a throttle body recall/ reflash performed already? If yes to all,
Initial guess would be fuel pump failure, or more specifically, burned fuel pump link lead terminals. Search for "DeShan" on the place with all the flies, I think that was his name.

Yup.
ECM rebuild in Nov. (1st time stall since I boughtcar in Nov)
Codes cleared about a week ago (see "no commo" thread).
Reflash done on pre-rebuild ECM.
Throttle body recall? (doesn't look like orig. throttle body)
Fuel pressure OK (last I checked)
VIN VC003032
Talkedto mech and saidcrank position sensor was one of codes.
I'm gonna get it changed.

RE: engine stalled message
What Ohio was saying was the fuel pump terminals get bad and cause car to stall. 99% of the time when you get the message saying Engine Stalled, it is fuel issue. I would replace the relays in the trunk fuse box and the engine management fuse box first. The relays on the 97 XKs were a disaster. If problem persists after that, go for the fuel pump. Easy to tell. Stick a fuel pressure gauge on car, tape it to windshield and go for a drive. See if pressure dies off while driving. This could still be either/or with pump or relays until you change one. Relays are cleaner, faster and cheaper.....lol.

RE: engine stalled message
since you got the crank sensor code.. i wud go with that probably was shorting before and caused the ecm to burn.. and if it is the crank sensor.. it will burn your ecm again.. had the exact same thing.. 1997 xk
you can check fuel easy to do.. crank sesnor not so easy to do..

Changed out fuel pump relay in trunk a few weeks back. There is a fuel relayin engine compartment, too.
79000 miles on car. Are thereany relays that I should replace as preventive maint ? Or keep on hand? I'm all for a few dollars now than a wrecker later.
Thanks J_G. I remember you mentioning that.
I gots to buy me my own scanner !!!!
