My 1998 xk8 keeps coming up with an error message which restricts the revs to 3000 and the speed to 50 mph. In the morning it's fine but if I drive a few miles, stop for a while (10 mins) then restart the error message comes on. Sometimes it will go off after driving a while but it seems to be happening more often. Has anyone had the same problem and what can be the cause. The engine has just clocked up 100,000 miles. Regularly serviced.

Thank you for your advice. I have read through the thread and always use high octane fuel. The battery is now 2 years old but the problem has been since I bought the car 4 yrs ago. However will check the fuse because if I put the radio on for a while without starting the engine the error message comes on straight away and the car ticks over as if only 4 cylinders are firing. Thank you once again will keep you informed.

 

Get the codes read. It could be any number of faults. Come back with the OBDII codes so that we can better assess the problem.

 

i had restricted performance and it was the throttle position sensor wiring circuit code. cleaned the contacts and the code went away. but yours could be anything if you don't know what codes its throwing up
