Default expensive unbranded coils

20 miles out of town, had a brief problem w/ a misfire. Fortunately the car waited until I was in town to go to limp mode. Pulled codes and got P0308 and P1316. Local parts store prices are ridiculous. Bought NGK from Rock Auto. It came in a box labeled NGK. Invoice says NGK but the actual coil has no markings or logo. Made in Spain. Installed (along w/ a new set of plugs) and the car runs smoothly. Meanwhile ordered another one. Same problem. I checked on line. Any picture of an NGK coil clearly shows a logo. Does this make sense? When I bought the car (barely running) the cheap coils (unbranded) were a big part of the problem. Suggests on a good mid range price coil and supplier appreciated. Thanks.

l have a suspicion (would need to check) that my original Denso coils are marked "made in Spain" so that alone should not be cause for concern.

Denso have a factory in Barcelona that makes among other things ignition coils. Spain is the second largest car maker in Europe, behind only Germany, so no doubt many other car parts/brands are also manufactured there.

FWIW: My original Denso coils were embossed on the side with the Jag part number and proudly "made in Japan", but that was 18 years ago. When I bought the the same NGK coils from Rock Auto three years ago, they were made in Spain, but had the NGK logo and part numbers embedded on the top. I have had mostly good results with Rock Auto, but one bad item: an AC compressor that came in a fully marked, new Denso box, but turned out to be a factory second with a squeaky pulley and leaking manifold. Immediately refunded the part cost, but I was out $300 in labor for replacement.

Thanks for the feedback. Any picture I can find of an NGK coil shows a logo. Part number on the side of my non branded doesn't match NGK number. Did a return on the 2nd coil (kept the 1st so I can drive). Based on my answers, verdict was "mis-boxed". Did you consider any other brand? Delphi in the same price range. My car didn't run when I bought it. Never again unless the price paid would buy a few large pizzas and a couple of beers. I did a replace set of coils (used) for the non branded garbage set the car came with. New Bosch plugs and and air filter. It now runs pretty well but I'd like to install a new set w/o breaking the bank.

So far, I like Rock. Local parts stores were 2x the price for NGK! Quick delivery and much lower price. Sorry to hear about the bad experience.
