Smile Fittings on expansion tank

I have just bought a new expansion tank from Rock Auto and am getting ready to replace the old one. The old one is still working good except for the magnet having fallen out of the float resulting in no low coolant warning. What I want to ask about is the clamps on hose fittings. I have never come across that type of clamp before. Could someone explain the method for undoing them. I don't want to screw them up.

Thanks guys

I pitched mine on my 03 when I replaced my tank. I did not like that they did not appear to hold well.

I got rid of mine as well, but I think it has the "cobra"? clamps.

The clamps seal very good and have an internal O-ring that provides the sealing. Attached is a picture of the tool needed to safely remove the clamps. Also I have attached a photo showing where the tool was stored on my XK8. The tool came on each engine but over the years many were never put back in place after the vehicle had work done. Search around and you may find you have the tool. The one on my XJ8 was underneath the throttle body.
In a pinch you can use needle nose pliers. The idea is to have the outside straps push outward to release the fitting. Install is push on.

No, I believe he's referring to the clamps in the link provided by jag#4. Post #6 in that thread by Graham has a picture that clearly shows the lock/unlock states.

That's quite interesting. My XK8 doesn't have the quick release metal clamps. It has the platic lines with the o ring seal fittings. I did notice in the parts book there are different hoses listed by VIN ranges.

I didn't trust the quick release clamps after I got them off. Replaced them with the ones pictured below. They work very well and keep a constant tension.
