I was told, that when I replace my valve body, I may need to flash my control units. On the VWs and Audis we just removed the positive battery cable and layed it on the negative post, with the negative cable still attached. This would remove the memories from the control units. Is this how it is done, or do I need to give money to the Jaguar dealer 20 miles away?.....Thanks....Mike

 

That's a hard reset. Flashing, or maybe reflashing involves connecting to a computer able to address the components. Maybe you won't need to, I hope.

 

BTW, the all-in cost of a Mongoose clone + SDD/IDS software is
usually less than $80 on ebay or uobd2.com

You would be ahead on its first use as compared to going to
the dealer.

 

You are correct that you should do the shift adaptation reset and it does require the dealer software to do.

But as plums said, it can be had pretty cheaply, far less than the trip to the dealer will cost.
